Alessio Rovera won the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Italia (Team Tsunami – Centro Porsche Padova) culminating in a spectacular battle at the final round at Monza. Alessio has already win the title of Italian Formula Abarth in 2013, and now, at 22 years of age is set to race in International series.
“It was a year on the rise. I had already raced in the Carrera Cup but in 2017 we saw the introduction of ABS. This initially set me back because of the need to find a continually changing optimal set-up after each race. Once we found the right set-up we then were among the pace-setters and leaders, even if the gap to the championship lead was already 20 points. The comeback culminated in the final race at Monza when I was able to pass for the lead. Also in how the championship played out, it was a year of growth for me personally, above all the psycholigical aspect. I was able to remain cool enough for the title and ultimately win it.”
You say you remained ‘cool’ and also were fast. These were no doubt your strengths. Has the win now changed the way you approach a race?
“I have definitely changed something. I also raced the 24 hours of Dubai and went really well, which also brought me to the notice of others. For everything that I won I want to thank my sponsors, my team and my father who have stayed by me during these years.”
So now where will we find you in 2018?
“I have 2 options, I may race in the Supertrofeo Lamborghini or possibly in the French Porsche Championship, one of the strongest in Europe, one in which my team (Tsunami RT) are already involved in”
How do people see you now after the win? You were already F4 champion and now in GT.
“The win in a GT car has created more interest in general. To win in 2018 will be even more important so I have to get a good start and try and win the championship in which i’ll be competing in”
How do you find your Stilo?
“Honestly, it is really good. Previously, I used other helmets from other manufacturers from which I continued with in karting. The move to Stilo was a good move, straight away I was comfortable. Infact the comfort and the easy use of the radio with Stilo means I will unlikely use any other helmet in the future.
