The top series of motor racing in the world is a challenge not only for drivers but also for helmet manufacturers such as Stilo, as comfort and weight have a key impact on driver performance.
For 2017 the newest phase of Formula 1 cars brings a heightened awareness on helmet weights. Bigger tyres matched with faster cars places a higher focus on driver fitness as cars are expected to be up to 40KPH faster through corners.
Helmet weight is a key enhancement to driver fitness as drivers can experience 4-5G when cornering and braking, placing strain on the neck.
At up to 25% lighter than competitors, Italian helmet manufacturer Stilo is well placed to maximize these driver advantages for F1 drivers Valtteri Bottas and Jolyon Palmer.
Stilo engineered and produced the world’s lightest helmet that conforms to the exceptionally strong FIA benchmark 8860 standard. Known simply as The Zero, the helmet weighs in at the minimum 1.2kg mark. The ST5 Zero employs a refined build process which allows the weight to be optimized without compromising performance and safety. All Stilo closed faced helmets come ready for integrated electronics, air supply, and hydration. Additionally, the ST5 Zero is available up to Size 64CM.
The shell sections and EPS (energy absorbing foam) achieve a balance, ensuring all parts work together. The dual-density EPS allows maximum comfort.
The shell is made of high-tensile carbon which uses a special technology that minimizes the components needed for construction without compromising the helmet’s structural tolerance. The patented “squeeze to unlock” latch system is another unique feature. Each part was subjected to detailed analysis to endure the best performance on a structural and safety level.
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Pedrengo, Italy, Stilo is one of the industry’s leading manufacturers and designers of helmets and helmet communications systems for global motorsports. Simpson Performance Products acquired Stilo in 2016 and Stilo continues to be headquartered in Italy where Stilo helmets are designed, developed and manufactured with the skilled artisanship and automotive history Northern Italy is known for. Stilo helmets further enhances Simpson’s leading market position in racing safety products and their mission to make racer’s safer.
