Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor have triumphed in the IMSA Series at Mid-Ohio, taking victory aboard their official Porsche 911 RSR. The driving duo, representing the manufacturer from Stuttgart, both using STILO finishing on top by the end of the 240 mile race.
The two STILO drivers, Bamber and Vanthoor, took the lead of the race in the early stages and withstood the challenges of the BMW driven by Alex Sims – yet another STILO driver (partnering De Phillipi). In the ‘P’ Category (for Prototypes), the numerous STILO drivers were consistently fighting at the front and when the chequered flag came out Oliver Jarvis (partnered by Tristan Nunez) took his Mazda DPI Team Joest car onto the podium in third place. Just outside the podium places were Filipe Albuquerque (partnering Barbosa), the Daytona winner at the wheel of the Cadillac DPI of Mustang Sampling Racing. For Vanthoor the victory at Mid-Ohio was the first in the IMSA Series GTLM and the Belgian driver, was obviously well satisfied with the result. “We had a really smart strategy that gave us the lead at the pitstop. It gave us a good gap, but I had to control it a bit with the tyres. I knew the guys behind me wanted to catch me, but I didn’t want to destroy my tyres too much, which isn’t easy. It was a very stressful one and half hours. I was happy when it was done and finally we won. I had to wait one-and-a-half years to get my first win. We’ve had some opportunities as well, but it always went wrong for some reason. Finally it worked out and it’s a huge relief.”
