The emotions keep on coming in the World of Rallying and so it was the case on the occasion of the WRC round held on the Italian island state of Sardinia.
The difficult gravel roads of Sardinia helped create a spectacular event which was ultimately fought out between the STILO drivers who stood out from the rest of the field, Seb Ogier-Julien Ingrassia (Ford Fiesta WRC) and Thierry Neuville-Nicola Gilsoun (Hyundai i20 WRC). The five time World Champion Ogier was in control after the first day which resulted in him going head to head with Neuville until the end, which in turn saw the Belgian get the better of his rival by only 7-tenths of a second. The compelling epilogue earned Neuville and Gilsou the lead of the championship. With the battle between Neuville and Ogier almost certain to decide the title, the next rally will be between the 26thand 29thof June in Sweden and the motivation will be as high as ever.

After his victory, Neuville was delighted: “We gave the maximum from the Saturday because we firmly believed we could take the victory. We pushed incredibly hard. I was always trying to avoid the biggest stones and rocks but at a certain point we decided we simply must push for the win regardless. In the last special stage we adopted the mentality “give absolutely everything we have”, I was trying to avoid any errors. I knew that if we made a mistake we would lose valuable world championship points and also the lead of the rally too. I had to concentrate very hard. Our extra motivation came when it became clear we would be fighting with a 5 time world champion, this was the extra reason I pushed on harder still to take the victory. And for this reason it also makes the victory extra special for us.”
