The first race of the F2 season was opened with a strong display by the Russian driver Artem Markelov, who is of course uses Stilo.
The Russian Time team driver managed his tyres perfectly in the high temperatures which the Bahrain asphalt was subjected to. In the second race, another Stilo driver put on a great show; the Italian Luca Ghiotto (also with the Russian Time Team), finished in second place not far behind the race winner Leclerc. The championship standings after the weekend are as follows:
1. Leclerc 36 punti; 2. Markelov 28; 3. Rowland 20; 4. Ghiotto 18; 5. Nato 18; 6. King 18; 7. Albon 10; 8. Latifi 8; 9. De Vries 5; 10. Matsushita 4
Artem Markelov: «I’m delighted. I want to thank the team for the great strategy calls. My engineer kept reminding me to look after the tyres, I did that, and it worked out perfectly. I knew the car was strong despite our qualifying problems and it’s great to start the year like this! It’s now about keeping the focus and capitalising on this winning start.»
